When loading your truck, you will want to make sure that the objects inside are arranged in a way that nothing gets broken during transportation. You will also want to be sure that the truck is capable of carrying the weight of the load.

Truck Loading

There are a few ways to ensure that you are loading your truck properly.

  1. Build a Wall- Often times, when people are moving, a lot of boxes are involved. Stack the boxes on top of each other starting with the heaviest items on bottom.
  2. Large Items First- If you’ll be unloading your entire load at one time, put all large items in first. This is best when you want to be sure you have enough space for these items.
  3. Secure any Items that can Move – Bumps and vibrations can cause objects in the truck to shift, so secure any movable items in order to prevent them from falling out. Cellophane can be used to secure stacks of boxes or items that are stored on crates, while bungee cords can be used to attach inventory to the sides of the truck.
  4. Distribute Weight Evenly- Load all of the heaviest items against the walls so the truck has more stability while it is being driven.
  5. Label Boxes- Label boxes to avoid damaging fragile items and for convenience when unloading. Or, alternatively if you’re picking up a load to transport to another location, ensure that the packing slip is easily accessible on the box.
  6. Protect Valuables- Make sure that electronic and other expensive equipment is wrapped with a protective padding.

Before attempting to load a truck, make sure that you have all the necessary tools. Dollies are an effective tool to use when loading heavy objects onto a truck. Avoid lifting heavy objects by yourself, and have at least one other person with you incase an accident should happen.

All employees should be properly educated on how to load and unload items from your rental truck before beginning. This will protect the truck from being damaged by items, and will ensure your workers are safe while doing so.
